1. Last summer I interned at a company in Nashville that was a little under a year old. The CEO was the former Senior VP/General Manager of a large record label in Nashville. After working in the music industry for about 30 years, he decided to branch away from the large company he was employed and start his own artist management company. His company had 3 employees (including himself) and his business partner. He took the risk to start a small company and compete against several other much larger management companies. The music industry is extremely competitive, so right off the bat I admired him for that. It ended up being one of the most rewarding experiences of my life so far. Because the team was so small, they were always seeking innovative ways to compete and succeed. They were open to all ideas and even asked my opinion on certain subjects. I loved listening in on meetings and discussions. I was even given the task to coordinate a fan club party and one of their artist's historic number one parties. The CEO took a huge risk to start this company in such a competitive industry and it is awesome to see how successful they have all become.
2. I hope to gain a better understand of entrepreneurship through taking this course. Everyone knows the general concept, but I am excited to understand more in detail what being an entrepreneur is really like. Because I wish to work in such a competitive industry, I hope my new understanding will give me an edge in the future.

That sounds like a really cool experience. Working in the music industry, or practically any industry for that matter certainly requires a certain amount of entrepreneurial skill. Do you feel like you used any of these skills during your internship? Did you help to bring in any new talent or spread the word of your party to strangers? Such actions can definitely demonstrated salesmanship and entrepreneurship.
ReplyDeleteWhat's poppin Alden!
ReplyDeleteDude, that's so cool that you got a chance to be a part of the music industry. It seems like you have a passion for music and I thinks that's awesome. I really like how you were able to see the opportunities from working with a small company, rather than complaining about the downsides of it. I really hope that through this class you're able to get an edge, like you said, and really pursue your passions in the music industry.
