I will admit, this class has been more of a time commitment than I anticipated. I have had to learn to set time aside to complete the assignments every week. There have been weeks where I have put more effort in than others. I would recommend trying to complete the assignments earlier in the week rather than later. I usually get the most done when I set time aside on a Monday or Tuesday to sit down and work on the assignments. Starting earlier in the week will also give you more time to arrange time for interviews when needed. I've found that if I wait until Thursday or Friday, I usually have less motivation and end up hurrying to complete everything Friday or Saturday night.
Honestly, there have been a few times where I felt like giving up and even dropping the course with my busy schedule. However, I start to think about how fast it is going by and how I need to honor the commitment I made when I registered for the class. Those times of feeling like "giving up" are honestly just laziness. It is not a difficult course and if you really do wish to be an entrepreneur, the advice and skills you can build would be helpful in the future. I've just kept my eye on the prize of graduating on time and that has helped me push through.
Like I mentioned before I would recommend setting aside a certain time during each week which you will dedicate an allotted amount of time to complete the assignments required. If you can stick with it every week, you'll develop the habit and it won't feel so forced. Also, make sure you start early in the week to give yourself time to complete the assignments that may take the extra effort (unlike I am now as I fill this out Saturday afternoon ha). I would also recommend reading the comments on your blog the week after you posted it. Some of the comments are very vague, but some actually bring up good questions which could help you in further assignments. Finally, I haven't been very good about this but, watch the lectures so you can take the extra credit quizzes. There's one every week and 2 of those can make up for an assignment you may have missed for whatever reason. I'm going to try to be better about this in the second half of the course. Best of luck to all future ENT3003 students!
Hey Alden,
ReplyDeleteI really liked your post and agreed with a lot of what you said! Since I too have a busy schedule, I have also had to find a day early in the week where I can get all my assignments for the week done! In the beginning of the course I rushed a few assignments the day they were due, but I soon realized this was not the path to success (or a good grade). After getting past those moments of laziness, this course has been much more manageable and, at times, fun.
I applaud your tenacity for not giving up on this course. I agree that staying on top of the lectures is really good advice. Not only do they include the content for the extra credit quizzes, but they also provide a lot of interesting and useful information that can help with the assignments. Sounds like your motivated to get off to a good start this summer B, so I hope that continues. I am trying to improve as well, my goal is not to miss a single assignment for the rest of the class. Best of luck to you too!
ReplyDeleteAlden,
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel. There have been many times this semester where I felt like saying, "screw it!" However, just like you I wanted to push through and honor my commitment to this class. I have to admit, this class has needed my attention far past my expectations! However, you can't beat not having any tests, finals, or books! Overall, I think just like every other student in this class, you will be happy to have finished this course. You are learning what it is like in the business world. There are going to be times where you are doing something and you ask yourself, "why?" Just keep up the good work and positive vibes for the next six weeks! Hope you have a great rest of the semester!
Hey Alden! I feel like I completely relate to your reflection. I did not know how much of a commitment this class would be and it takes on a totally different class layout then a lot of us are used to. I think this class is not difficult it is just a matter of putting in the effort and being discipline enough to do the assignments. I also think the extra credit quizzes are very beneficial since it is okay to miss some assignments because those extra credit quizzes can make up for those missed assignments very quickly and easily.
